Water Scarcity at alarming level in West Bengal
Apurba Koley* & Pronoy Ghosh**
A remarkable modification
in environment has been seen in previous few years. Lack of fresh water
resource to fulfill water demand i.e., Water scarceness is currently one among
of the foremost serious risks being moon-faced by the globe at every level. A
lot of individuals round the world face water shortage and a daily struggle to
secure safe water for his or her basic desires. Clean water may be a crucial
considering guaranteed human health and protection against a wide range of malady.
Unless this basic hurdle is met, large-scale human convulsion and suffering can
continue and grow in future, contributory to the danger of social conflict.
Water scarceness forces individuals to consume contaminated water, resulting in
water borne diseases. Inflated urbanization is putting a massive strain on
existing water and Sanitation infrastructure. Bharat is being tormented by the
worst Water crisis in its history. Consistent with NITI Aayog report on India’s
water resources, 600 million Indians moon-faced high to extreme water house
leading to two lacks death a year (Indian express, three June 2018).
According to WHO/UNICEF
Joint monitoring Programme (JMP) Report, 844 million individuals don’t have
clean water and United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund
Advancing WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) in school
monitoring, 2015 reported that 31% Schools don’t have clean water in India. WaterAid, a global non-profit organization that was started in
1981 as a response to the international organization International drinking
water & Sanitation decade, reported that India is among the highest ten
countries with largest range of individuals living without access to clean
water. Consistent with the Union Ministry Study 2017, 411 lakhs rural villagers
in India doesn’t have access to clean water, from them seventy eight lakhs
villagers from West Bengal and eighty two lakhs from Rajasthan. Only fifty six
families in urban areas in state have access to safe potable that is far but
the national average of 76%. Niti Aayog report aforementioned that “By 2030,
the country’s water demand is projected to be twice the out there supply”.
A protracted history of water
scarceness out there in Purulia district. Village ladies of Purulia have to be
compelled to walk for long distances with clay pots and pitchers for Water.
Behind the Water scarceness many factors are accountable. Consistent with UNDP
Human Development report, 2006, each physical and economic water scarceness ascertained
the meloncholy in Purulia. Physical water scarceness is insufficient water
resources to fulfill a country's or regional demand, as well as the water
required to fulfil the demand of ecosystems to perform effectively. Not solely
Purulia, South kolkata, Bankura, Birbhum and other some districts are at
alarming level.
Those are just a few
examples from the many miserable ones. Water does cover 70 of the earth’s
cover. Its total amount does remain constant on this planet. But those two
things don’t matter anymore. 7.2 billion people, all with a beating heart and a
breathing life should have access to clean fresh water. Imagine one day waking
up just to realize you slept past the water supply timings. Surely you can
wonder how the rest of the day would follow. Surely most of the people have
been there at some point of our lives. Imagine being compelled to live like
that for a long time or may be for the rest of the life. There are actual stories
of water scarcity that partially expatiates the horrible life being lived in
reality? We breathe this planet in and out. The planet that has literally been made and diversified in the ways we see today just because of the precious
presence of water.
Having said all those
things and having seen all the scenarios, We want to conclude this with just
one question that we wish to be answered in a sustainable way, - “ Can anything be done that can reduce the
water scareness in a way that is affordable to those who are actually suffering?”
